We have closed on the property!
It's now a matter of waiting for a while, as we all have too much dayjob work right now to get much done. And there is a lot to be done.
The first thing is getting access to the property itself. It sits 500 feet (150 meters) off the road, and there's no driveway or utilities. We're hoping by September to have a basic gravel drive in, and with luck, water as well.
Then comes clearing land and working with the city planning commission to get a small building in (hopefully by spring), and (again, with luck), a small solar rig and some air conditioning so we have a place to escape the summer heat as we get the land ready for planting.
In the meantime, we're propagating as fast as we can. We've got about 100 asparagus seedlings coming up now, those will be transferred first to raised beds at the house (really kiddy-pools), then out to the property next year. It's a three year process to get from seed to production with asparagus.
